UBS released the “Billionaire Ambitions Report 2025”, indicating that the number of billionaires will increase by 8.8% to 2,919 by 2025, with total wealth reaching a new high of US$15.8 trillion, a growth rate of 13%. The Asia-Pacific region will see a considerable uptick in 2025, with the number of billionaires rising from 981 to 1,036, marking the highest growth globally. From an industry perspective, the wealth of billionaires in the technology sector grew by 23.8% to US$3 trillion, tying with the consumption and retail sectors as the top global industries. With DeepSeek's release of a large language model (LLM) at the beginning of 2025 and reignited interest in “Made in China” technology development, billionaires in the Greater China region's technology sector staged a strong comeback, with their wealth showing an uptrend. Meanwhile, the growth momentum of the European luxury industry is replaced by Chinese brands, prompting a deceleration in the consumption and retail sectors to 5.3%. Nevertheless, this sector still gathered the most billionaire wealth globally, totaling US$3.1 trillion. In terms of wealth transfer, heirs in South Asia and East Asia are expected to inherit US$764.6 billion over the next 15 years, with heirs in Greater China projected to inherit US$407 billion. In light of the older age of Indian billionaires, the country is poised to witness the largest wealth transfer in Asia, with the total inheritance expected to reach US$382.4 billion. In contrast, Chinese billionaires are generally younger, with smaller family sizes. By 2040, heirs in Mainland China and Hong Kong are expected to inherit at least US$315.7 billion. Hong Kong heirs are expected to inherit the highest amount within Greater China, reaching US$180.4 billion, while business growth in Mainland China may narrow the gap, with heirs in cities like Beijing and Shanghai potentially inheriting at least US$135.3 billion.
